Rebecca is our angel. She was born with CytoMegaloVirus that affected her brain – basically making 1 side smoother than the other. Due to this, she is unable to walk, talk, or do other left-side brain activities. However, she is a happy girl who loves her sisters and friends at school, and is especially fond of babies. She has a knack for cheering up those around her with her coo’s and smiles. She is a joy to have in our family and makes us feel blessed.
In recent news, she has struggled (actually for 2-3 years) to gain weight. She has weighed around 27 pounds since she was about 4. At 7, this was looked at by the doctors as a bad thing. She is healthy and strong, just not gaining weight. Because of this, it was decided to give her an enteral (stomach) feeding tube. She has 3-5 cans of formula per night that is fed through a pump into her system as she sleeps. Because of this, she has gained about 5-7 pounds in 3 months. It is definately been a big help. However, it has taken some getting used to. Because she “eats” all of her calories at night, she does not eat at all during the day. This was a big change, since we didn’t need to constantly worry, “Is she eating enough?”, “It is time for Becca to eat again?”
